POID Specialist

Reporting to: Programme Director

Location of work: Lalgadh Leprosy Services Centre

Purpose of job: To develop the capacity of National staff and the POID services at LLSC


An appropriate candidate will be a podiatrist with experience in training. They will have an interest in surgery or biomechanics. They must also have experience and an interest in research. The appropriate candidate will be well informed about Leprosy in all its presentations and manifestations. A good working knowledge of wound care and some surgical experience before reaching Nepal would be valuable.

Term: Minimum 2 years

Support: Generous living allowance (including school fees, home leave and flights)

Language: Willingness to learn Nepali


Main responsibilities:


  • To monitor and evaluate all aspects of the work at LLSC relating to POID activities
  • To identify and advance aspects of the work in accordance with contemporary evidence based developments
  • To enable staff to develop skills and knowledge in areas relating to POID
  • To ensure quality control of all aspects of the work relating to POID activities
  • To assist staff in research activities
  • To keep up with current podiatry knowledge, particularly regarding leprosy.
  • Other duties as specified by the Management Committee

Rehabilitation Officer

Pursuing NLT’s vision for community-based rehabilitation.

Urgently needed to manage, develop and promote a community-based rehabilitation Programme serving people affected by leprosy in southern Nepal.

Ensuring the implementation of Nepal Leprosy Trusts (NLT) community based rehabilitation programmes, and the Community Based Rehabilitation (CBR) components of the Leprosy Control Programme. Includes ensuring effective co-operation with Health Posts in the four districts around Lalgadh, ensuring implementation of a Defaulter Tracing Programme and monitoring & supervision responsibilities agreed with the Nepali Government.


Essential requirements:

  • Management experience
  • Experience of CBR work
  • Ability to liase effectively with Government of Nepal, other Non Governmental Organisations, donors
  • Strong but pragmatic imagination to take NLT’s CBR Programme forward
  • Experience of, and ability to monitor, evaluate and report on a range of projects
  • Desire and commitment to serve the people of Nepal.
  • Significant experience of Nepal or similar less-developed country.

About NLT

NLT is an evangelical Christian mission est. in 1972. Lalgadh Leprosy Services Centre, opened in 1996, has become Nepal’s busiest leprosy centre—with 125 staff and receiving 30,000 out-patient visits per year. A broad range of integrated development projects is under way and expanding.

NLT (Nepal) is an NGO registered with the District Administration Office at Lalitpur, Nepal and is affiliated with the Social Welfare Council, Nepal. NLT (UK) is a registered charity in the UK (Registered Charity No. 1081952).

Since 1972, NLT has been working to improve the lifestyle of needy people in Nepal, in particular those affected by leprosy. It seeks to bring medical, social and economic benefits. Major emphases are leprosy control, rehabilitation, education and prevention of impairment and disability (POID).
