August 16th was the deadline for signing the new Constitution, and like many previous deadlines came and went without the signing taking place. There does not appear to be any idea of when it may now happen.
In the meantime there continues to be much unrest around some issues in the proposed Constitution which have sparked a lot of protests, especially in the Mid West of Nepal, where people have died in demonstrations.
Christians in Nepal remain concerned about Article 31 which specifically states that it would be a criminal offence to “act to convert another person from one religion to another”. However, this defies Article 18 of the UN Universal Declaration of Human Rights to which Nepal is a signatory.
Please continue to pray for calm and for the right outcomes to these important issues.
